Writers submitting from within the United States must now snail mail us your submissions.
( See guidelines below)
International writers, submitting from outside the US, are welcome to submit their work to us online. We welcome all submissions, and we thank you for your flexibility.
Reading Period: Editors read submissions between August 1 and April 1. Pieces arriving after April 1st are returned to the writer unread.
Editors' Note: A piece of writing about "place" could explore a specific geography--of the body, the mind or emotion. It could present a particular world view. It could be about soda pop or curry. A personal sense of place in time or history may fit the definition, as could any writing that plays with the sense of genre as a place. It could capture the liminal, or the indeterminable space between two objects, locations or people, because writing negotiates the ineffable. This does not mean purposefully enigmatic, ambiguous or abstract writing but instead a definitive act of trying to find the boundaries. We want something beyond the "ode to a tree on yonder hill" sort of poetry, and we want prose that is energetic and moves the reader beyond accepted assumptions about locations. Setting is the least of it.
To Submit Work:Mail one prose piece and/or one to three poems (maximum!) at a time. If submitting in multiple genres, send them in separate packages or emails addressed to the appropriate genre editor. Email is for international submissions only
- Poems should be typed and single-spaced on one side of the page. If sent by email, paste poems in the message and do not send by attachment. Poems using unconventional formatting should be snail mailed.
